High Street, Halstead, 2016
The first of two recordings in Halstead High Street (listen to the second here).
On my list of locations to record was Halstead High Street, and even though I had passed through here many times in a car, I had only walked up the main hill once. I had never stayed in one place and observed the proceedings as I was about to do.
I sat on a bench outside the Post Office where I thought would see a reasonable portion of the local community pass by, and I wasn’t disappointed. Firstly there were two van drivers loading up parcels from the Post Office, and having a good chat whilst they did so. Many people going about their shopping and other business made their way about town. But the landscape was dominated by the busy A131, which passes right through the middle of town and provides a constant flow of cars, buses, motorbikes and trucks.
