Sudbury Regatta, River Stour, 2016
I was house sitting for a friend and nipped into Sudbury for some supplies. As I drove through town I noticed it was considerably busier than I had seen it before. Eventually I parked up and on the wind I heard that familiar sound of voice-through-pa-system. I followed my ears and found a considerable crowd gathered at Friar’s Meadow, on the river banks of the Stour. There were lots of very fit people, in team colours, with oars and boats.
The 136th Sudbury Regatta was in full swing so I decided to record some of the proceedings. Now, I know technically the recordings were made in Suffolk, but Essex was on the opposite bank, so I’m counting this as a valid contribution. There were also some Essex teams competing, which adds another connection.
Here are two shortish excerpts which I hope you will enjoy, especially the comments from the compère.
