If you travel up the coast to Clacton you pass through The Spitway, which is marked by Bell Buoys. A couple of years ago I tried to record it, but someone started to talk to me; last year didn’t bother trying as wasn’t close and it didn’t ring much. This year, both Balmoral and Waverley didn’t make the trip because of high winds. However, last year with Waverley making its long return trip from Tower Pier around the forts, I did hear the Bell Buoy but the recording wasn’t up to much.
In this recording in 3 parts you should be able to hear the bell as Waverley slowly rounds the Redsand Fort, I have brought the volume up just to make things easier. The following parts are to do with the other forts and new wind farms, strictly speaking none of these are in Essex but they are easily visible from all over Southend, Herne Bay, Whitstable, the whole estuary really and audible to those who jump on the Waverley at Southend and venture forth.
