Platform 1, Clare Station (disused), 2016
I know that Clare is in Suffolk but it’s just over the border, north of the River Stour, and it has well preserved disused station buildings and platforms. Where the tracks were is now grass, but you can still stand on each of the platforms and wait for the train that never comes.
I have been here before, which is why I returned to make the recording, but it was much quieter last time. This time there was the lingering summer storm that had poured on me earlier and also the arrival of two coaches full of students who had come to visit the castle. But still, it was great to absorb the ambience of the station and paint mental pictures of those commuters and travellers who had passed through here between 1865 and 1967.
