Lee-over-Sands, 2016
Although my trip to Tendring was mainly in search of seaside and summery sounds, I was also open to finding more quiet places. Looking at the map, Lee-over-Sands seemed to be a potential contender for the quietest place in Essex, given it’s remoteness and distance from major roads. It didn’t disappoint. After following a delivery truck down the unmaintained road and track, and a quick look at the new super modern beach hut (based on the designs of Maunsell Forts) I sat on the anti-tank defences for a while, listening, watching and thinking. The Clacton Airshow had just started but all I heard was one distant helicopter and much to my delight, there wasn’t much else to distract from one’s reverie.
