Village Green, Great Easton, 2018
To add to our collection of recordings where large housing projects are being planned, I was trying to track down where Easton Park might be built, and stumbled upon this delightful scene in Great Easton. There is a small green next to The Endway which has two benches on it, so I sat on the one dedicated to ‘Great Easton Parish Council Centenary’ and listened. Behind me, contributing to the very summery soundscape, were two lawnmowers cutting the grass in St. John and St. Giles Church. After 15 minutes or so they moved to another part of the churchyard further away and that left more space in the sonic environment to hear the housemartins that were acrobatically feeding on insects between the houses on which their nest were built.
