Strand Wharf, 2015
Windy, but trying out ways to shelter the mic even though I bought a fluffy baffle just for that.
You can hear Brent Geese and lots of other birds making a racket out on the river from Chalkwell and Leigh Cliffs, but they’re distant and you have to get past the noise of waves, winds or both.
Strand Wharf is the only public wharf in Leigh. I went down there because the tide was going out, and I’ve heard geese from there before. I actually got there just a bit too late, as the geese were following the tide out and I still had to set up some kind of windbreak/find a more sheltered spot, and the bulk of them had just passed.
You hear geese; there’s some kind of hum, I think that is from Mike’s Boatyard; there’s the flapping of a rope against the aluminium signal mast on the wharf; and you hear banging and metal being dropped, that’s from Sea King Ltd who have a shed and slipway on the wharf.
Even with shelter it is still noisier than I’d like though.
This was recorded in the afternoon this time, about 3.40 pm.
