Thaw, 2018
Like Chelmsford, Southend had snow and freezing cold to accompany The Beast from The East and Storm Emma. Whenever we have snow here the local paper, The Echo, has pages of photographs from people who have gone out especially to take pictures, I don’t know how (or why), it’s just too cold.
By Friday night/Saturday morning the thaw was well under way. This recording is from about a third of the way down the hill that is Dawlish Drive in Leigh, could have done it anywhere really, there was water flowing in gutters, dropping from eaves, drumming on the plastic boxes housing utility meters in every street, but this was at about 4.00am so not too much traffic noise. It’s a normal width street with houses, not quite a canyon but the sound has nowhere else to go and although the sound file looks pretty flat bumping up the volume seems to brings out quite a lot.
