Southend Fog Horns, 2007
Recorded in foggy weather, around 9:15 pm. This was recorded by the side of the pier, behind Adventure Island, near where the new-ish slipway for the inshore lifeboat is.
The tide is in, and it’s by the seawall, so it’s noisy, but beyond the waves you can hear the the two-note (long and short) pier fog horn. There’s also another electronic foghorn, not sure where that is. Finally there’s an air-powered horn. Again, it’s very close to the pier so I don’t know if it’s on the pier or on a ship.

Nice recording, the air horn is definitely a ship horn ” answering” the two foghorns, not sure about the higher priced horn either – maybe a lightfloat foghorn perhaps, the long Southend pier only has one foghorn right at the very end which as you can hear has a lower frequency ( 650 hz ) since the higher pitched horns ( 800 hz) which is the other type only go 2 nautical miles distant, the location of the horn won’t be very far away . Great job!
