Chalkwell. En fete! (2016)
Southend seems to be keen on bunting these days. The last few years have seen bunting along the High Street, and some years ago the length of the pier was bedecked for the season.
This is recorded in Chalkwell. A little kiosk there, Tide, sells frozen yoghurts. It had 2 flags flying in the strong breeze and, above a little kind of courtyard, bunting strung across. You hear in the background waves pounding onto the beach and the bunting crackling away. This bunting was plastic; when they had it on the pier it was material, so a much better sound.
The moped or scooter near the end is entering Esplanade Gardens, and it comes straight back because there’s nowhere else for a scooter to go when you get to the end.
Recorded 11.46 in the evening.
