St.Edmund's Church, Abbess Roding, 2016
Whilst on my way to record a cricket match at Matching Green I found myself travelling through several small, quiet villages, and made a mental note to pass back through some on the way home in order to make another recording of ‘quiet’ places.
Perhaps they are more enjoyable to make than to listen back to, as more of the senses are engaged whilst physically in a location, but it’s good to indicate that Essex can be quiet and shy as well as loud and brash. There really isn’t a huge amount happening in St.Edmund’s Church yard on a Sunday afternoon in July, except for the air conditioning fan over there, a juvenile rabbit having a munch on some grass over here, and a few butterflies going about their afternoon business. Oh, and a bloke with a fluffy microphone enjoying the tranquility of it all.

I think these are very enjoyable to listen back to! I can imagine I am outside on a peaceful summer’s day, even while I am stuck in the office.
