We would expect any city's high street to be bustling with the activities of commerce, leisure, and socialising. These activities have been occurring since medieval times, as described by Hilda Grieve's talk on Chelmsford in 1381, but how have the sounds of the activities changed? We can only imagine what the city sounded like in medieval times, but we can compare Grieve's description with the sounds of the High Street in 2015.
