As the population of Essex grows, towns expand, and technology allows us to take sound-making devices anywhere and everywhere, there is a perception that it is getting harder to find peace and quiet. On the other hand, the decline of heavy industry means former factory sites are now quieter housing developments or unused spaces - like the former lime kiln at Beaumont Quay. Is Essex becoming noisier? One advantage of technology means that we can capture, as well as produce, sound in the remotest of locations. These quiet places have been captured: will they be as peaceful in twenty years? Please send us your recordings of your favourite quiet places in Essex to add to our collection.
