Wild Leigh, crickets, 2018
With the hot weather we have crickets more “vocal” than the usual, loud enough to rival Clacton I fancied, but listening again Jaywick sounds like a jungle whereas down here it’s just one or two evenly spread.
This was recorded on the cliffs at Leigh, at the foot of Avenue Road, right in the bushes so out of the wind. As well as the cricket you hear a Mercedes Benz car do a U turn on Cliff Parade and speed off towards Leigh Hill, in the background you might be able to hear the throb of the Cobelfret (now known as CLDN) ferry Celestine arriving from Zeebrugge or Rotterdam for Purfleet and, as it was about 1 o’clock trains were still running from London, the C2C line is at the bottom of the cliffs and there is a section of jointed track so you do hear that train rhythm of memory although not a lot of it, as it is only a 4 carriage unit.
