The Southend Song, 2010
I live in Southend and wrote this song many years ago, and recorded it in my PC based home studio. My mate Schlep needed to create a music video as a part of his degree and the video as you see it was born. I’ve played the song in a few pubs in and around Southend (just me and my acoustic guitar) and it generally goes down well. The whole point of the song is that there are no doubt nicer places in the world to live (and with cooler names to sing about) but ultimately I love Southend for what it is, my home.
It was filmed mainly on the beach and huts near Uncle Tom’s in Shoebury and Thorpe Bay near the tennis club.
It is a far from perfect audio recording. Strictly DIY, at home on Cubase VST on a Windows PC with midi drums and not entirely my finest work to be honest. Every element of the audio was created/played/generated/edited/crudely mixed by me. Maybe I’ll record a cleaner version one day. 🙂
Schlep got a 1st for his degree. I had no idea what he had in mind (or was capable of) when we were filming. I love it and I/we would be proud and honoured to be included in your archives and possibly added to your ‘Southend Song’ section.

Thanks very much for sharing this with us! It’s almost as catchy as ‘Father Went Down To Southend’.
