Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Joseph's, new chime, 2018
A few weeks ago I was near Our Lady of Lourdes just before 9pm; this is the last time it chimes at night. It wasn’t too windy, there was a bit of drizzle in the air, but it was quiet, not a lot of traffic. I did record it, then I went under a little cloister, to get out of the drizzle. This was created when the church hall was rebuilt, but, when I listened to it, it seemed a bit incomplete, I assumed where I was masked some of the sound; when you’re out on the street it can really reverberate if you’re in the right spot.
Try again, not from Marguerite Drive this time but from Cliffsea Grove to try and get into the lee of the wind, more traffic about as I was going for the full 12 strikes, but before that the chimes, and the realisation that what I thought I’d half heard from the cloister has actually changed. Don’t know how they do it, didn’t know they could, perhaps it’s like a musical box and you can reset the pins.
