Hot rails to...Middlesex, 2016
Part One: Southend Victoria, the 19.10 service to London Liverpool Street sat at Platform 3, faint platform announcement, then the same again over the carriage PA and then, as it’s the seaside, a passing gull.
Part Two (01:15): The doors shut and the train sets off for Prittlewell. It’s a short distance, not much beyond the sidings so no great speed made. No announcement but able to accelerate out of Prittlewell towards the destinations heard earlier, all Essex up to and including Stratford, briefly twinned with Mount Olympus, home of the gods.
Shortly after Stratford the River Lea is crossed and it’s into Middlesex and the terminus at Liverpool Street.
