I had first heard about Rowhedge in 2009 when I was visiting Wivenhoe for another project. I had walked around the houses you can see in the distance and then back towards the town, when I spotted the local ferry. I followed it to the quayside in Wivenhoe to watch, and listen to, the people disembark. I noticed then that the other points on the ferry route were Fingringhoe and Rowhedge, and at that moment I vowed to one day visit them.
Unfortunately I didn’t use the ferry to visit them today, but I’m glad that I actually set foot, and made recordings, in both places. I also made a mental note to return once again and have a few pints on the riverside.
