Blow wind blow, 2018
A common sound all around the coast, in creeks, harbours, marinas, anywhere where you can keep a boat, must be the flapping of rigging in the wind, and Southend is no exception. Here we have lots of open storage, so you don’t have to go out of your way to hear it.
This is a three parter: first of all the new Alexandra Yacht Club jetty in Southend, tide not high but just about in so audible in the background as well, so far, so ordinary. Then, Thames Estuary Yacht Club jetty further along the seafront in Westcliff, same night, same time, about 12.45am but with the wind that strong you also get whistling, must be a bit more exposed there. Final part is the microphone unshielded being battered by the wind.
You do also get that whistling in Leigh, along The Cinder Path where there is storage, but the recording I made sometime last year I think it was, isn’t much cop.
